Rubesa Gewog
Rubesa Geog Center is located on the hill opposite to the old Wangduephodrang Dzong. It overlooks the old Wangdue Dzong. It is about five kilometers away from the Dzongkhag Administration, Bajo. It consists of six Chiwogs with six Tshogpas and most of the Chiwogs are far flung. It has a total of 309 households according to the annual RNR survey.
It has a population of about three thousand people. It has an area of about 163.6 sq. km. The altitude ranges from 1200-3000 meters above sea level. It is very windy and because of the favorable condition of the wind, a wind power project to harness electricity (600 KV) has been constructed just below the Regional Livestock Development Center (RLDC) office. The main cash crops of the people are paddy and potatoes. They sell vegetables also to the buyers from the Punatsangchu Project and in the Sunday market at Bajo. One of the exclusive products it produces is the maykhu (made out of rice). People from Rubesa Gewog go to other gewogs to teach the art of making maykhu. They sell the maykhu on the Wangdue-Thimphu highway.
The Geog administration consists of the local government officials like the Gup, the Mangmi, Gaydrung, the Tshogpas and the chipons. Apart from the locally elected members, there are government officials like The Geog Administrative Officer, The Livestock Extension Officer and the Agriculture Extension officer. The Geog has a Community Center from where the public can avail various services. The Community Center is looked after by an Operator who in turn is monitored by the Geog and BDBL. The Gewog office and the RNR center are located together. The Geog has two schools namely, Jalla Primary School and Bangteykha Primary School. It has one BHU at Jalla Chiwog which caters to Jalla and Ulla chiwogs. The Regional Livestock Development Center (RLDC) is also located near the Geog Center. A part of the Punatsangchu project is also located under Rubesa Geog, apart from Daga and Athang Geogs. The project has helped the Geog in Developmental activities like construction of farm roads and irrigation channels.
The Geog Administration conducts its Geog Tshogde(GT) quarterly and it can also conduct an extra GT meeting when necessary. The meeting is chaired by the Gup as the chairman and the Mangmi as the Vice Chairman. The Tshogpas meet with their public in their chiwog and then put the points to the Geog Tshogde for further discussion. The minutes of the meeting are distributed to all the members and the Dzongkhag Tshogdu. After the discussion in the GT, the points are further taken to the Dzongkhag Tshogdu for discussion and deliberation. The Extension staff from the RNR, Principals of schools, the HA from the BHU and the Goshay Nyenshays are also invited as observers in the Geog Tshogde. The Geog Tshogde is the highest decision making body in the Geog.
