Handing and Taking of Hara Chhu Capture Fishery Management Plan (HCFMP) under Athang gewog was graced by Dasho Dzongdag in presence of team from National Research Center for Rivereine & lake Fisheries, Haa, Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, Regional Livestock Development Center and staffs from Dzongkhag administration and handed over to the Community Group comprising of 66 members as Hara Chhu Capture Fishery Management Group on 7th November 2017.
The communities of Rukha, Samthang, Lawa, Lamga and Migtena under Athang gewog are popularly known for their unique and traditional product ‘Nga Dosem’ which is prepared as smoked-fish by using traditional method of preservation. The process of making Nga Dosem was passed down to generations by illegally fishing from Hara Chhu and it became the main source of income for the communities. The harvesting and production of Nga Dosem was legalized to the community in 2010.
According to Mr. Tashi Dorji, the Chairman of the Hara Chhu Capture Fishery Management Group, Hara Chhu habitats six different species of fishes. The fishing and processing of Nga Dosem seasons starts from September to November every year.
The Dzongkhag Livestock Sector had discussed on the effective functioning of the group and the sustainable production and marketing of the product to benefit the group and the community at large.
Dasho Dzongdag and the team witnessed the Vacuum packaging and the packaged product showcased for ready marketing. The Vacuum Machine procured from Dzongkhag Development Grant was provided by the Dzongkhag Administration to the Group for packaging of the product.
