The Public Health Engineering Division, Ministry of Health initiated to pilot a two-year Rural Sanitation & Hygiene Project across the country in selected Dzongkhags. The project aimed to improve the health of the rural populace by encouraging access to sanitary & hygienic toilets. Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag was one of the pilot Dzongkhags and has achieved 87.3% of Pour Flush Toilet coverage in the two-year pilot phase of the project. Out of 15 gewogs under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag, three gewogs; Athang, Gase Tshogom and Gase Tshowom achieved 100% Pour Flush Toilet coverage.
Coinciding the World Toilet Day Celebration on 19th November 2017, the Gups and the Health Workers of Athang, Gase Tshogom and Gase Tshowom gewogs joined the celebration in Trongsa to receive medals and certificates for achieving 100% Pour Flush Toilet coverage. The Dzongkhag Administration would like to congratulate the Gups, Health Assistants and Health Workers, Local Leaders and the general public of Athang, Gase Tshogom and Gase Tshowom gewogs for the recognition and achievement of 100 % result.
